Meet Bart

It has been such a crazy week at work that I only just got to post about Bart, an amigurumi custom order I sent off last Monday.

Bart here is a relo (for the non-Aussies, that means relative) of Monty but he is definitely got the taller genes like Eleanor the aspiring botanist. He stands 21cm tall, 15cm from ear to ear and has a 10cm belly. Very cuddly, perfect for his new human who I believe is yet to be born!

Bart's made entirely from merino wool yarn (both brown and red is Katia 100% extrafine superwash merinoin colourways 502 and 4 respectively). Felt pieces are 100% wool felt and his scarf is 100% superwash merino yarn by Knitterly Things, colourway Moon Dance). He is machine washable although I would avoid unless really really necessary and should be in a washbag like a piece of delicate clothing.

He has his scarfie cause where he is going will get cold and besides, he is one stylish bear!

Safe travels Bart!

As for me, I am off to start on the next baby softie… have a great Sunday!

The scarf is all finished! And a back to blog land update...

Yay, so it is finished! Actually I finished it a couple of weeks ago but been busy so only just got some photos together. I am happy with how it has turned out and I can't wait to give it to my friend in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I have also finished a beanie for a new born niece or nephew but I haven't take any photos cause I don't have a little baby to fit it on - doh! Hopefully he/ she will come soon and I can take some pics then!

This last week was also my birthday (this year, I decided that there is no such thing as mid or late thirties - I am just in my "thirties" OK?). We had steamboat on Tuesday night! And this weekend, I caught up with a school friend whom I hadn't seen in almost 10 years!

Until next time... take care and blog soon.

107cm knitted, 73cm to go

Apart from a very very crazy week at work, I have done not much else than knitting the scarf.... and proud to say that I have 107cm!

Scarf progress - a week on...

So a week has passed since my last update on the cable scarf. I am pleased to report that I have doubled the length (68cm). I have been really good. I knitted on the way into work and on the way back and I managed not to poke anyone who sat next to me! For two separate nights, I even knitted in bed just before I fell asleep.

Although I am very a compact person when on the train (because I need my personal space), I thought to make things easier, this weekend I got myself some shorter knitting needles and they are made of bamboo so they don't clank (or "chime" as I call it) as loud and less risk of crossing the personal space boundary.

I am beginning to think that I have a chance in finishing it before 30 May.

Until next time, take care and blog soon.

A progress report - Lionbrand Harbor Scarf

I think I really need to knit faster.... Here is what I am up to - almost 38.5cm in one MONTH! The pattern says I need to make it to 180.5cm. That's 142cm to go so by this calculation, it will take me another 3.5 months to finish. I don't have 3.5 months, my friend's birthday is on 30 May.

Knitting on the train is not as easy as crocheting which I have done periodically. So far, I have only been knitting in the morning trip as I leave early and always get a seat comfortable enough but that's not always the case in the evening. I am always worrying that I would poke someone which I have done accidentally. One incident to date and this girl just gave me an evil look - SORRY! Most people are very good about it but you get the odd ones which I can't blame them... really. If they hate going to work early already and then having to sit next to someone so cheerful, bobbing her head to the music she is listening to from her ipod, and clanking (more like chiming I think) all the way to the city with their knitting needles...

Anyway, I just have to knit at night and on the weekends too I think. Probably not procrastinating and reading other people's blog would be a good start! Or not having 3 other projects on the go would help too I think... : ) I did say previously that I am not very good at any repetitive tasks, especially those that need to be 180.5cm long - just as well the cable stitches keep me interested (rows 3 and 7, rows 3 and 7, just keep chanting I might get there quicker)!

On that note, I'd better get back to it.... just as well we have the 4 days holiday for Easter.

Until next time, blog soon and take care.

One for the road

I commute to work each day on the train and it is a 40 minute ride each way so I normally read and do puzzles but with winter fast approaching, I thought a knitting project would be ideal for the long train ride. I am making my friend a scarf. Her birthday is in May and I knew she wanted a knitted scarf last year but I wasn't quick enough (procrastinated for too long) and ran out of time so I am starting early this year!

One of the reasons that I didn't make it last year is that I am not a big fan of making scarves as I get bored with doing the same stitches for rows and rows (until 180cm in length!) so this year I decided that I would learn to knit cable stitches. I have always loved cable stitches, they just look homey but they always look too hard. But I thought that's a good thing to keep me concentrating since the rows aren't the same over and over again. So on Sunday, I watched a youtube video, studied the Lionbrand pictures and picked up the needles.

I chose a Lionbrand free pattern called Harbor Scarf and the photos show what I have so far. They were taken by the talented Selene (thanks heaps Selene!).

So far so good especially after I worked out the tension required... getting there..

Until next time, take care and blog soon!
