iPhone wristlet pouch

Last weekend, I started making a simple pouch for a dear friend who recently got herself a new iPhone. Since blue is my friend's favourite colour, I used some of the remaining IKEA fabric I used to make the Amy Butler Blossom Bag and the All Purpose Coin Purse. It's just rectangular shaped, I cut the pieces on the fold.

For the wristlet piece, I followed this tutorial.

I think it has turned out ok, I hope she likes it.

An iPhone sleeve in a road trip

Recently a friend asked if it would be possible to knit a sleeve for her iPad with a slit in the front to slide it in. I said sure why not. So last weekend when we took an 8 hours drive to visit the family, I decided to work on the sleeve in the car. The result is this:

Anyway, my pattern is for an iPhone 4 though it can easily be modified to fit an iPad or Kindle or any other tablets.

1. Magic cast on 16 stitches on each needle, 32 in total
2. Rotate work, slide top needle through
3. Knit in the back loop across the 16 stitches, rotate
4. Knit across the 16 stitches, rotate
5. Put stitch marker on. Knit in round until work measures 9cm
6. Knit 1, bind off 14, knit 1
7. Knit across 16 stitches
8. Knit 1, cast on 14, knit 1
9. Continue to knit in the round for another 3cm approx
10. Bind off using kitchener stitch.
11. Weave in ends

My "i-pouch"

It has been just over a week since I got the new iphone4. I have managed not to drop it but it copped a lot of scratches from all the sloshing around in my handbag. Fortunately I stuck a layer of screen protector in the front and back straight away. I knew it would be a matter of time before something "cracking" happens to it... So I have since got a case that is not so bulky, black hard plastic slim shape with the Apple label on the back - as normal a case as I could find them. It still leaves the face of the phone exposed.... hmmm, got to a make a pouch! I knew just the fabric for this... I have been wanting to use this mushrooms fabric since I got it many months ago - perfect!

I planned to just machine stitch the sides at the final stage but turned out it is too thick and I like my machine too much to step on the pedal harder so I just hand sewn the blanket stitches on, turned out ok I think.

The big clip came from an old ipac case I had from eons ago and I thought it would be perfect for hooking the pouch in place inside my handbag for easy access.

I can think of a few changes to improve this pattern but it is my first attempt at drawing it up, experimented with the measurements, fabrics, interfacing etc. I would definitely like to make a couple more in the coming months to do more testing.

I spy with my little eyes... something beginning with "i"

Hello iPhone 4 and welcome to 2010! I had wanted the iPhone since the first 3G model came out but procrastinated as I always do over stuff is not work related... before you knew it, 2 new models later I realised that I still looked at the iPhone with puppy dog  eyes and it wasn't one of those "love at first sight impulse want" feeling... Fast forward couple of months after the launch of iPhone 4, I finally pulled my finger out, gathered what paperwork necessary and dragged my ever so patient hubby with me to the Telstra Shop yesterday morning. Unfortunately the nice man at the Telstra Shop told me that they had no stocks! How could that be? I did all the research. I went in their shop two weeks ago where they told me that their shipment comes Wednesday and should have one left by Thursday night and it was only Thursday morning... Anyway remember how I said I did my research? I have been told that JB HiFi usually has more stocks and on we marched to JB HiFi. Luckily they had one left but it's a 32GB phone... hmmm, I only wanted a 16GB but one look over to hubby and he encouragingly nodded his head, I thought "oh what the heck", I didn't have to be told twice!

Enough of this obsession with the iPhone (for now). I would like to properly farewell my trusty Nokia... Thanks little phone, you have done your job and you can now retire (possibly go to a museum as the young man at the shop jokingly suggested).

I am off to find some more cool free apps for my new iPhone, design and make a pouch, put in all my email contacts.......
