How I made the Rainbow flowers

Here is how I made the Rainbow flowers for Sunshine & Lollipops.

I made these flowers using Perle cotton threads and because they are rainbow flowers, I picked rainbow colours.

1. First rainbow colour, cast on 6 chain stitches using magic ring cast on. Leave a 10cm tail, cut.
2. Next round, make 6 petals using the different rainbow colours.

Colour 2, in the first stitch, *Chain 2, 1 half double crochet, 3 trebles, 1 half double crochet, Chain 2, slip stitch*

Repeat the * to * for the remaining 5 stitches in the different colours.

Leave at least 15cm tail after each colour

At the last petal, make a slip stitch in the first chain of the first petal. Leave a 20cm tail and bind off.

Now weave in all the tails but leave one cause you might want to stitch it on something else or make a big loop to so you an hang it up somewhere.

A dress rehearsal...

There are only 6 more sleeps to go before the first debut of my softies at the Dreamers Market next Saturday!! We are officially in the "all hands on deck" crazy madness trying to get everything in order stage! All hands - well just hubby and I... if only Sally has opposable digits!

One of the things I was doing this weekend is finalising the table decoration and to try to do a mini dress rehearsal. I have made up a selection of amigurumi cupcakes for the day so I thought how better to display them than to use a proper cupcakes stand...

I am really pleased with how they are looking so fingers crossed they will catch people's eyes on the day!

Also started labelling the paper bags and printing out flyers.

Anyway just thought I would do a quick post before the final week of preparation....

On that note, I am going to get back to the lists of things to do!!

Just been busy with the Dreamers Markets preparation... in fact, I have done nothing else in the past two weeks. There is a write up about me on their website here too - can't help to blush reading about myself on someone else' blog!

I took last week off the day job to experience the joy of being a creative working from home person - I must say I have been loving it! Nevertheless, this fun fairy tale is coming to an end (like a holiday) as I am heading back to work on Monday... back to the normal routine.

So apart from getting heaps done and my fingertips are a little sore, one of the major highlights has been the photo shoot session with a great friend, creator of the Food For Four blog, yesterday. Here are some from the almost 250 photos she took. You can really see the difference between these and those I have been taking using my iPhone and the good old Olympus point-and-shoot camera!

 

I know I have been dedicating a lot of time (98% of my spare time actually) at this but I am really enjoying it. I am learning a lot of new things from honing in my hand sewing techniques to thinking outside of the square to having a peek at what it really means to market and promote yourself. 

The market is two weeks away from today (squeal with excitement and trepidation!) and I feel that my preparation is on track... although of course there are always things I can do or would like to do as well. It has already been such an insightful experience, I can't wait for the big day to come!

I found these little clips in a 2 dollar shop the other day and I thought they would be perfect for my crochet flowers. They were only $1 for a pack of 10 - what a bargain!

Gone mad...about crochet flowers

Well this week, I have gone a little mad about crochet flowers and the result is this:

It all started last Sunday afternoon when I had finished one project (Woof Woof) and didn't want to start anything big cause the weekend was coming to a close. I looked at the Hello Kitty I made and thought I'd try another flower pattern, and another, and another....

So much fun - I think I will keep going. These flowers are easy to make and they are quick! Also I have found that I get to use different stitches which let me practice my crocheting skills. On the top of that there are few projects in the back of my mind bubbling away as I am still trying to work them out, making these flowers relaxes me. I want to have a go at making other hair accessories too - especially since the hot glue gun was nice to me today.

It did cross my mind that I don't have a little girl (the human kind) at home to make these things for but I have a few friends who do plus we have little nieces I can send these things to so all is not a waste!

Crochet flowers

I love crochet flowers but only ever attempted to make one which was last year to add on to a little beanie I made for a friend's new bub. I learned how to make this particular one by watching video online. I didn't take a picture of it though.

Since then, I had been too busy or distracted to try more until today when I came across a flower in a Japanese amigurumi book I have... what is a girl to do when she sits at home sick with a stomach bug? She does some crocheting of course.

I love the different stitches I get to use when making things like this!
