I made a bag!

I made a bag! All by myself!! with tricky parts! So excited that my new On-the-go bag is done and every part is as they should be.

Check it out! It has an adjustable strap...

Concealed top zipper...

Perfect for day trips, fits a Lonely Planet book, a wallet and a phone comfortably, even the Kindle as well.

A small bottle of water too...

Ideal for iPad as well...

I wanted a bag to take on an upcoming trip to New Zealand in mid November but I couldn't find one pattern with all the features I wanted so I thought I would modify an existing one which also proved to be more difficult than originally thought so I decided to have a go at making my own.

Using Lisa Lam's The Bag Making Bible as reference, I started to build it bit by bit. It's been such a fun experience and I learned so much!

I am planning to write down how I did this step by step so I can make more. I really like this size but I will make the inside pockets bigger and perhaps learn to make a zipped pocket on the outside...

Ah, yes I am already thinking about the next one - a sure sign that I really enjoyed this experience - woohoos!

Happy stitching! x

  1. Hi Amanda,
Well done on the bag there girl!!! It looks rather cute and very practical too. It fits in all the important things you need and I like the pattern on the front of the bag.
    Good on you.
    Cheers, Anita.

  2. Hi Anita, that's so sweet of you, thanks so much for being so encouraging! I got the fabric from hobbysew last year. I find it calming to look at.
